DR. SUDIP BOSE of TheBattleContinues.org explains the state of emergency medicine and insurance practices.
Stop Insurance Company Underpayment
Write your State elected officials and tell them that Insurance underpayment is a STATE EMERGENCY that must be addressed. Patients deserve the basic right of fair coverage and timely insurance payment for healthcare emergency services.
DO NO HARM
That is the sacred oath made by every physician in our great state. It’s an oath that guides the hands who help us when we are at our most vulnerable.
When it comes to emergency services, health insurance companies seem to live by another oath…
Health insurance companies use intentionally constrained networks and confusing rules for the payment for out-of-network services, leaving patients and physicians to pick up the tab. This tears at the very fabric of trust required in the patient-doctor relationship. When insurance companies don’t pay appropriately for emergency services, a horrible chain of events begins.
1) Patients put off real emergencies in fear of financial ruin
2) Emergency physicians look to find work somewhere sustainable
3) Emergency situations increase and the cost of those services increase while the supply of qualified physicians decreases.
THE EMERGENCY IS REAL — BUT THERE IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION.
